POZitive Attitudes is a topic-driven peer lead HIV support group for Gay and Bi-Sexual men who are infected or affected by HIV or AIDS.
We meet every Wednesday night from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the Art Serve auditorium, 1350 E Sunrise Blvd, Ft Lauderdale, FL 33304.
The first hour is dedicated to a specific pre-determined topic. Check out our list of past topics on this website. Around 8 o’clock, we take a 15 minute break for refreshments; cake, soda and water. The second half, we’ll discuss items of interest that affect our community such as Medical Updates, News Events, or up coming social events.
We have ground rules that govern how we conduct our meetings. We are an anonymous group and so we expect our members to not out other’s status. We respect opinions without judging. We speak from our own experiences saying “I” rather than the accusatory “you”. Individuals under the influence of drugs or alcohol will be asked to leave and come back when they are sober.
Our Weekly Meetings are FREE and Open to all Gay and Bi-Sexual Men who are Infected or Affected by HIV or AIDS. We provide a confidential, safe and comfortable space to share information, build lasting friendships, and get support.
In addition to the weekly Wednesday evening discussion, the Fort Lauderdale Group hosts regular Friday Movie Nights, special dinners, and other social events. Check out our calendar of events.
Through this web site, we hope to share information and foster discussions about important health, social, and economic issues that are of particular interest to the HIV community.
So whether you have been recently diagnosed with HIV or have been a long term survivor of HIV/AIDS, you are welcome to ‘just show up’ to our meeting meetings and/or participate in our on-line discussions.
Yesterday I was in my therapist’s office and he gave me your card. I’m a long time serviver, 18 yrs.
I’m 61 years old and I am interested in your group.
I would like to know if there are any people my age in the group ?
I have been a hermit for some time now. It’s time to be social again.
Last time I was in a HIV+ group was a very long time ago
(Center One Days) about 12-14 years ago. All of the men I was friendly with are gone. I am the only one left.
Thanks,
David
David,
It was great seeing you at group. Glad you could make it. Hope you become a regular member.
Steve
Hello David, I am sure we know each other. I share a similar story including Center one. After 3 years of isolation it is time to increase my social activity. Looking forward to saying hello.
David –
I glad your therapist told you about the POZitive Attitudes Group. Please join us on Wednesday evenings at the GLCC in Wilton Manors from 7:00 – 9:00pm and then after for dinner at either Peter Pan or the 24 Diner.
We are a friendly bunch with many long term survivors like yourself as well as many newly infected. We are from all age groups including many who are you age. We are a friendly group and highly supportive of one another —
So don’t be a hermit anymore. Come out & see us on Wednesday evenings at the GLCC… and on Froday evenings for the Group Movie… and Sundays at…

Your group sounds terrific. And I think this site is great. Lots of good information. Very easy and accessible. Unfortunately, I’m in Miami Beach. Have you thought of doing something similar down here? Would also be nice to get the same type of information for Miami/Dade.
thanks for doing what you do!
Walter,
Would love to help someone set up a support group in Miami/Dade. I think you guys need it. Traveling up to Ft Lauderdale is difficult.
I am all for that as well, we have a need for this in Miami too.
I’m new to this forum so not sure where to post this topic so I’ll just leave it in the general area.
I am currently going to the Paul Hughes Health Center but they are closing next month i learned last week at my doctor’s appointment. My doc gave me some medical records –sort of a start kit to take to the next place (vaccination list, health problems, medical evaluation, last 2 labs, western blot, medication list) and referrals to some clinics to go to.
I’m currently enrolled in Ryan White for medical/dental thru the centalized intake. My question is…….I chose Care Resource as my new clinic. I’ve went over there last thursday and picked up their intake packet/forms and filled them out and returned them on friday. They guy entered me into their computer and made a copy of my Ryan White enrollment sheet which shows i’m enrolled and my eligibility expieration date. They then made me an appointment with David Schuman (case manager) to get my enrollment at Care Resource going. I’m wanting to know how hard the intake process is …..esp since i’m already enrolled in Ryan White. Does Care Resource make you go thru any other financial eligiblity to go to their clinic? I’m only wanting to go their for medical services (bloodwork/doctor) as I can still go to Paul Hughes for my dental services with my Ryan White (they didnt shut down dental there).
Also wanting some feedback on Care Resource as I dont know anyone that’s used their services.
Thanks
Greg
I cannot find how to email anyone on this web site….am I missing something?
Thanks
Nelson,
I sent you an email. If there’s someone else you want to email, let me know and I’ll send them your address.

Hello, my name is Peter. I am planning a trip to Ft lauderdale soon (need to escape the cold and snow here in New England!) and would love to attend the Wed. support group and other activituies/social events for gay poz men. I am also looking for a reasonabley priced and friendly place to stay that would be welcoming to a middle aged gay positive man like myself. I have never been to the city before and would welcome any suggestions/help. I want my visit to be a good one and I want to connect with other positive men and have fun and be supportive. Thanks for any advice anyone can give me.
Peter,
You’re going to love Ft Lauderdale. We live up to our signature move ‘Where the Boys Are’. Definately come to the group and join us in other activities, like our Friday night movie.
Ft Lauderdale has 2 gay areas basically, the beach and Wilton Manors. These areas are about 3 miles from each other. Sebastian beach is the main gay beach and there are some great gay guest houses near there, but most of the other activities (restaurants, bars, etc) are straight. We also have a nude beach called Haulover but that’s about 15 miles away.
Wilton Manors is the center of Gay-Gt Lauderdale. This is where most of the gay bars, gay restaurants, gay clothing stores, gay gift shops, in fact almost every business in Wilton Manors is gay. This is also where The Pride Center (Gay Community Center) is located. There is also a little green “golf cart” that travels around Wilton Manors taking people from bar to bar to guest house. They operate on tips, but will not go outside Wilton Manors.
So depending on what you want to do, decide on either the beach or Wilton Manors. Staying where you plan to do things will save on transportation. So here’s a link to our gay hotels and guest houses, Link
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Great site, nice to read the posts.
I have never been to a meeting and trying to get up the courage to go.
You should create a Facebook Page so we can keep up-to-date with everything that goes on.
I live here in Dallas, TX and attend a local support group.
A friend went down to visit his daughters in Fort Lauderdale and brought back one of your four x five cards.
I’ve been reading the site at random and have found some wonderful information.
Our little group has no web site, nor the knowledge to create such a site. I commend the developer and the leaders of this group and site. It has helped me find some of the information that I needed personally that I’m not getting locally with my support group.
Glad we could be of help. What’s the name of your group?
When is the email list of the group gonna be sent out?

Hi Steve, hi guys !!! From Zagreb I wish you all a great Christmas time and a new year full of hope and joy. See you soon ! Eugenio ( is there a way to post a photo? )
I also reccomend any HIV+ male to check out the CHOICES & LIFE PALS PROGRAM courses at the Pride Center.
Hi, this morning I found out that I am HIV+. I think I’d really like to check out this support group. I was referred to one that’s a 17 week program but it won’t start until January 29th.
Come join us. We’re a good bunch of guys. A place to make friends.
I have been a member of POZitive Attitudes since I found out about my poz satus on apr 23, 2012. Until now I was happily working as a professor at FAU. suddenly today, my chair called me at 10 a.m. and told me that as of May I would no longer be a professor ar FAU. I am being let go – after more than five consecutive years (25 semesters) of teaching full-time. She is a known homophobe. If I lose my job, I don’t don’t where to go for hep. Who can help me. Floroida law prohibits discrimination based on everything but sexual orientation. But our department at FAU, which is going up for accrediation next year, has chosen (voluntarily) the theme “diversity”. Since I am the only gay male in the department and I have never had any major complaint about my teaching, and since the chair is a known homophobe, shouldn’t some one protect me? The question is ‘who’? And what must I do to meet her or him (or them)?
I am in dire need of help and am at my wits’ end. I cannot just get up and start over somewhere else in the world. My home is here, my friends are here, my better half is here, and my support group is here. Who can help me?

I tested poz way back in 1985. I’m so healthy it’s crazy. I just want to find a group who gets me. I isolate a lot and do not have sex even though i am handsome for my age. I. Need to connect with folks like me. First time reaching out. Thanks.
I was diagnosed in April of ’92, infected in late ’91. Last time I was in a group was back in the early to mid 90’s at BodyPositive in Midtown Miami. I have become somewhat of a hermit as well. I would like to meet someone in similar situation that would like to date.
