The Wednesday meeting on February 23 will be held in the main hall of the Pride Center and the topic is Egrifta. Egrifta is the first and only FDA approved drug for the reduction of excess abdominal fat in HIV infected patients with lipodystrophy. Our guest speaker will be Vern Appleby the Director Clinical Research at the office of Gary Richmond M.D. where the Egrifta studies took place and future studies will be conducted. We’ve booked the hall and Diplomnat Pharmacy is providing refreshments. I’d like to get a good turnout for this, so please come and invite your friends.

I also need help in setting up the Main Hall for this meeting. The food is being delivered at 6:00 so we need to have hall set up before there. Come at 5:00

Thanks
-Steve

The Wellness Center hosted a dinner at Gelati Martini (2037 Wilton Drive in Wilton Manors) on Monday Night. The speaker was Nutritionist Cade Fields-Gardner and sponsored by EMD Serono. The topic was Nutrition for HIV positive people. One of the questions asked was does nutrition affect the abdominal fat buildup. The answer was that insulin spikes contribute to abdominal fat, so the way to combat this is to avoid insulin spikes. Less sugar and carbohydrates, smaller but more meals, and balanced meals. Fiber and fat counteracts the insulin spikes and therefore should be part of those balanced meals.

Guy is the owner of this wonderful restaurant and his specialty are the gelato desserts.

Dinner was squash and apple soup, salad, broccoli mousse, chicken or beef and gelato dessert served in a martini glass. Tres chic, n’est pas?

We met some new friends and caught up with old some old friends.

After dinner, we thanked Heidi for inviting us to this seminar and fabulous meal.
