At the Gay Men’s Health Summit, David W. Forrest PhD from the University of Miami presented these findings from NHBS study done between June and November 2008 in Miami, Florida. 527 men were interviewed, 10% white, 70% Hispanic, 18% Black and 2% other. Some interesting statistics from this survey stood out:

14% of all men identified as being HIV+. but when tested during the survey, 25% of the men came back positive. This means that 45% were previously unaware of their HIV infection.

The top reason men gave for not getting tested were: (1) Afraid of finding out they had HIV and (2) AT LOW RISK FOR HIV. These were the top reasons regardless of whether the men tested negative or positive.

69% of all men reported using the internet in the past 12 months.
