If you’ve been following the news the past few days, you may already be familiar with the much-talked-about “New York Patient.”

She’s the middle-aged woman of mixed race (she’s asked to remain anonymous) who appears—so far, at least!—to be cured of HIV via a relatively new type of procedure: a haplo-cord transplant that also successfully treated her particularly dangerous form of acute myeloid leukemia.
