About this Event
World AIDS Museum Presents:
Medications Then and Now
[Evolution and Efficacy of HIV Medications]
“Medications: Then and Now,” an exhibition showcasing the evolution of various treatments and medicines for HIV in a visual and impactful way that engages viewers and inspires dialogue. The exhibition will begin on Friday, January 31 and remain available through the end of the year.
“I am honored to have been brought on board to curate, design and create an installation focusing on the history of HIV/AIDS medications and how they have impacted the people who use them,” said Lopez. “I’m passionate about using the arts to provoke dialogue, educate and break stigmas and I hope this work will bring clarity and understanding to those who view it.” WAM Executive Director Réquel Lopes says the new addition to the museum will provide a unique perspective into the daily medical protocols associated with managing HIV/AIDs. “WAM’s new exhibit will tell the story of HIV medications; how they have helped and hindered care, the progression of regimens from many pills to a single daily tablet, the influence of HIV medications on other treatments, and the future of HIV/AIDS management as a chronic illness rather than a death sentence,” remarked Dr. Lopes.
.
The Museum will host an opening night reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, January 31. The evening will include a special viewing of the new exhibition, as well as special performances by flutist Laura Sue, dubbed “The Silver Nightingale,” and poet Glen Winston James. Light refreshments will be served. The World AIDS Museum & Educational Center is located at 1201 NE 26th St. in Wilton Manors, FL.
This exhibition aims to take HIV/AIDS advocates, art lovers, and the wider community on a painful and thought-provoking yet rewarding journey through art.
