Community Friends and Stakeholders
Art of Community Project H.O.P.E. Art Contest Winners and
Public Art Sculpture Plans to be Unveiled
Wilton Manors, Florida— September 7, 2018 — On October 11, 2018 at its “Coming
Out” Party, the World AIDS Museum & Educational Center (WAM) will share an exclusive
sneak peek at its future.
“In honor of National Coming Out Day we encourage everyone to come out, learn about
the achievements of the past year, recognize our supporters, and continue to build community
through art” said Will Spencer, President of the Board of Trustees at the World AIDS Museum
& Educational Center
“Best Kept Secret” No More
WAM invites you to join us for a special evening of surprises as we unveil plans for and
celebrate the winners from the Art of Community Project H.O.P.E. sponsored by the Community
Foundation of Broward in partnership with the City of Oakland Park.
WAM will reveal the final concept for a public art sculpture that will be created to inspire
residents and individuals living with HIV/AIDS that there is hope for a better future. WAM has
received nearly 200 entries to its community competition where local students, artists, and
residents were engaged to design an art piece that depicts an empowering message of recognition
and awareness to what many deem a “forgotten population” and their struggle to survive and live
a meaningful life despite the disease. A panel of community leaders will select the finalists and
the winning artists will be announced at our “Coming Out” Party on October 11th. The winning
artworks will serve as the design template of a large-scale outdoor sculpture created by local
artist Tyler K Smith and installed at a prominent location in the City of Oakland Park.
Party guests will also enjoy highlights of our community work with our friends and
partners and get an exclusive sneak peek at WAM’s future.
“We are excited to share our stories of success with our friends, stakeholders and
community” said Samuel Joseph, Interim Executive Director, World AIDS Museum. The
Coming Out” Party is our chance to share who we are, the important work we do, and stop being
our community’s “Best Kept Secret”.”
